About
Black Bucket Essays is a series of essays related to art/culture, written by a group of visual artists. Each issue presents a prompt that contributing artists write a response to (in under 500 words) in any format or style they choose.
History
At the end of 2014, Eileen Wold and Leah Cooper discussed the influence their fellow art contemporaries from the MFA Studio Art program at Maryland Institute College of Art had on their thinking and art making process. These artists were part of five different graduating classes but overlapped over four years. And during those intense weeks in the studio, a unique framework developed, in which each artist would exchange ideas and influences with certain ideological consistencies. A desire to revisit that growth and continue the conversation, Wold and Cooper created the Black Bucket Essay Series.
Volume one was published throughout the year of 2015. Volume two is now in progress and will be published throughout the year of 2018.
